Weitere Informationen:
This image shows the view North from the top of the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, Via dei Fori Imperiali, Rome, Lazio, Italy. The long road in the middle of the image is Via del Corso which leads to the Piazza del Popolo at the far end. Along Via del Corso is Piazza Colonna. It is named for the marble Column of Marcus Aurelius which has stood there since 193 A.D [only the top part of the column is visible in this image). The Via del Corso (ancient Via Lata, the urban stretch of Via Flaminia), commonly known as the Corso, is a main street in the historical centre of Rome. It is remarkable for being absolutely straight in an area characterised by narrow meandering alleys and small piazzas. Considered a wide street in ancient times, today the Corso is approximately 10 metres wide, and it only has room for two lanes of traffic and two narrow pavements. The northern portion of the street is a pedestrian area.
