This is a high-resolution photograph of "Christ's Body Carried to the Tomb" (El Santo Entierro), an important Northern Renaissance oil-on-panel painting created circa 1520 by the celebrated Augsburg master Hans Burgkmair the Elder. The wide, multi-figure narrative illustrates the solemn biblical procession as the lifeless body of Jesus Christ is carried in a sweeping white burial linen shroud toward his final resting place. Leading figures such as Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus shoulder the weight of the shroud, flanked by a deeply sorrowful group of followers that includes the weeping Virgin Mary, Saint John, and other mourning holy women dressed in heavy traditional drapery. Set against a lush, rocky hillside landscape containing a cave sepulcher on the left, the composition showcases Burgkmair's mature style, blending local swabian traditions with stylistic elements drawn from Venetian colorito and early Netherlandish realism. Housed in the permanent collection of the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, Spain, this public domain work is fully optimized for fine art textbook publishing, religious history archives, academic journals, and editorial educational media.
