Weitere Informationen

This gate serves as the main entrance to the Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III at Medinet Habu, located on the west bank of Luxor. The Eastern High Gate is a unique structure among ancient Egyptian buildings, modeled after Syrian fortresses, which gives the temple complex a fortified appearence. It was part of the great girdle wall surrounding the temple complex and was built during the reign of Ramesses III. The exterior is adorned with military and religious scenes, while the interior depicted the pharaoh in a domestic setting with his harem.
