Das Nilpferd kann bis zu 19 Meilen pro Stunde laufen. Kruger National Park, Südafrika: DIESE UNGLAUBLICHEN Bilder zeigen zwei wütende Flusspferde, die in einer Show die Kiefer verriegeln
The hippo can run up to 19 miles per hour. Kruger National Park, South Africa: THESE INCREDIBLE images show two raging hippos locking jaws in a show of dominance. One image shows a hippo leaping from the water, teeth baring, as it launches at its opponent. The hippopotamus is the largest land mammal, aside from elephants and rhinos, weighing upwards of 3, 300 pounds and can run speeds of 19 miles per hour over short distances. They measure up to 16 feet long and can stand five foot fall at the shoulder. They are also able to protect themselves from predators due to their two-inch thick skin. These images were captured by paleozooloist, wildlife technician and photographer Marco Anson Ramos (34) in Kruger National Park, South Africa, using a Canon EOS 90D camera. ?We made a stop close to a pan to take spend some time watching hippopotamuses, ? said Marco. ?On the spot, a pair of male hippos start to fight for dominance. ?This jaw-to-jaw encounter. They test the size of the gape, tusks, and weight of each male. They spent ten minutes or more confronting each other. ?This was a dominance display, not a truly aggressive fight. ?I felt really happy. I didn´t want to miss any single detail of the scene. ?These are wild animals living their lives. No captive, no controlled conditions, not previously prepared. ?These moments and shots reflect the true natural world.? mediadrumimages/MarcoAnsonRamos
