The silk showroom at the ‘Thai Silk Village’ located in Ban Sanuan Nok, a village a neighbourhood of Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second largest city and a UNESCO world heritage site in northern Thailand. The ‘Thai Silk factory’ is one of Chiang Mai’s many tourist attractions, allowing visitors to see for themselves the process from breeding silk worms to silk and finally being produced by hand and using basic wooden weaving machines, and methods. Finished silk products ranging from dresses, shirts, blouses, gents ties, home decor, etc, are on sale in its separate large showroom. Thailand is known for its artisan-quality silk, often hand-woven and producing unique traditional designs. Thailand has capitalized on its reputation as a producer of artisanal silk, with top well-known brands becoming synonymous with luxury and quality. The introduction of weaving silk began around 2, 640 BCE in China. The main Silk Road became a network of ancient trade routes connecting China and India and other parts of the Far East with the Middle East and Europe. In the 13th century. the Silk Road, stretching over 4, 000 miles (6, 400 km), was made famous by explorer Marco Polo, a Venetian merchant / trader from Venice in Italy.
