HMS Mersey (P283) is a Batch 1 River-class offshore patrol vessel of the British Royal Navy, launched on 14 June 2003 and commissioned on 28 November 2003. Built by Vosper Thornycroft in Southampton, it displaces 1, 700 tonnes, measures 79.5 m in length, and achieves a top speed of 20 knots with a complement of around 30-50 personnel. Primarily tasked with protecting UK fishing rights and maritime security, it supports navigation training, defence engagement, and rapid deployments, operating up to 300 days at sea annually on a rotational schedule. As of 2025, it remains in active service following a major refit completed in July 2024. HMS Mersey is pictured near Gravesend after spending the week at the DSEI defence exhibition, London.
