More than a week after Beijing¯s strictest-ever ban on smoking came into effect, China may need to put an eye on another addictionªunderage drinking. 51% of Chinese junior and senior high students have tried alcohol and 15% of them have been drunk at least once in their lives, according to a new survey by China¯s National Institute for Nutrition and Health. The survey, which was released last Friday (5 June 2015), was conducted in six major Chinese cities from 2013 to 2014. Among those who have tried alcohol, 28% took their first sip before they were 10 years old. Parties are regarded as the most popular occasion for drinking, mentioned by 62% of the teenage drinkers, followed by 51% who drink at family gatherings.
