Weitere Informationen

A common tern (Sterna hirundo) is captured in a dramatic moment as it rises from the water after a successful dive on Öland, Sweden, in spring. The bird's wings are fully spread, showing the elegant grey and white plumage, while water droplets still fill the air around it. The characteristic black cap, vivid red bill and red legs are clearly visible. The low shooting angle and the beautifully blurred blue water surface create a stunning, painterly background that isolates the bird perfectly. This high-speed action shot freezes a split-second moment of hunting behaviour that is rarely captured with such clarity. The common tern is one of Öland's most charismatic and photogenic breeding birds, returning each spring from its wintering grounds in West Africa.
