Flowers of Prunus itosakura (called Garyuzakura), a wild species of cherry trees native to Japan, are in full bloom in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture on April 15, 2024. Garyuzakura is a nationally designated natural monument and was named because its trunk and branches resemble the shape of a reclining dragon. This is a large Edohigan cherry tree that is 1100 years old and is one of Japan's most famous trees.( The Yomiuri Shimbun via AP Images )
