Near the entrance to the COPE (Cooperative Orthotic and Prosthetic Enterprise), a Visitor Centre & Museum is a sculpture made from 500kg of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), including cluster bombs of those who have been injured, lost their lives or loved ones from (UXO). The sculpture was made by local artist Anousone Vong in 2008, in the grounds of the Centre for Medical Rehabilitation (CMR) on Khouvieng Road in Vientiane, capital city of Laos in southeast Asia. The Visitor Centre is next to the National Rehabilitation Centre, an indoor stadium for disabled people, and nearby wheelchair workshops. The museum has a large display of exhibits of prosthetic and orthotic limbs, crafted by on-site technicians, films showing mainly of the Vietnam war and giftshop. COPE was established in 1996, and first opened in 2008 to the public to show its amazing work which has helped thousands of unexploded ordnance (UXO) survivors access to regain mobility and dignity. Laos is on record, the most heavily bombed country, both in history per capita, and the world. More than two million tons of cluster bombs were dropped over Laos during the 1960s and 1970s Vietnam War. Bomb and landmine clearance is still being carried out across Laos, It is estimated that there is 30% unexploded bombs, claiming more victims lives and serious injuries every day.
