. Made at the recorded location in 2022, this photograph records a real place and moment, preserving details that may later be altered by redevelopment, rebranding, changing ownership or different public use. The main point of reference is Mersey Gateway Bridge, across the MSC (Manchester Ship Canal) and river Mersey, showing Fiddlers Ferry power station, Halton, Cheshire, UK. The setting additionally reflects local history, public realm, waterway conservation, rail transport history, industrial navigation, trackside history, canal transport, changing land use, towpath landscape, period detail, before-and-after reference, signal-box architecture, everyday life, and social history. Current relevance extends to volunteering and public access, particularly through how museum collections preserve working waterway history. In present-day coverage, the subject reaches into signalling technology and heritage conservation, not least because of how Crewe's identity remains tied to railway engineering and operations. The image fixes transport arrangements and footfall within the recorded location at one identifiable point, providing a benchmark against altered transport patterns. The subject also sits alongside rail infrastructure, place identity, documentary photography, industrial railway, community identity, regional identity, archival record, and historical comparison. Elements such as Manchester, Halton, river, showing, and across add documentary specificity and may become increasingly useful when compared with later records. For the recorded location, the photograph contributes to a cumulative visual history in which changes in use, signs, access and appearance can be traced over time. The wider significance includes volunteering and how museum collections preserve working waterway history within the specific setting of the recorded location. The frame retains details of everyday use within the wider story of the recorded location.
