During my Nostalgia Tour of Northern California, I could not skip a visit to Pacific Grove. It is certainly true that Monterey, Carmel, and Pebble Beach receive the majority of the accolades but I have always enjoyed the quiet ambiance of this delightful little town sandwiched between Monterey and Pebble Beach. Even this day's marine layer did not diminish the astonishing beauty of this lovely spot. In fact, if I were to chose a coastal California town in which to live, I honestly think that I would put Pacific Grove at the top of the list. One of the jewels of Pacific Grove is the Pacific Grove Golf Links. It is a municipal course but beautifully designed and well-maintained. Initially, when it opened in 1932, it consisted of only nine holes. The excellent back-nine was later designed by Jack Neville (who also designed Pebble Beach Golf Links) and opened for play in 1960. Pacific Grove Golf Links is considered one of the best municipal courses in the state of California and is often referred to as "the poor man's Pebble Beach". The newer back-nine surrounds the Point Pinos Lighthouse, visible in the distance of this photo.
