Weitere Informationen

Pero's Bridge is a footbridge across Bristol's floating harbour at St Augustine's Reach. The bridge was designed and constructed by Eilis O'Connell; and Ove Arup & Partners engineers. It was opened in 1999. The horn-like features are counterweights for opening the bridge to shipping. The bridge was named in honour of Pero Jones, an enslaved African who lived and died in Bristol. In 1765, at the age of just 12, Pero Jones was bought by plantation owner and sugar merchant, John Pinney (1740–1818) - for whom he worked for 32 years. Also sometimes known as Horned Bridge or Shrek's Bridge (because of the ears).
