. Peveril of the Peak, Victorian green tiled pub, 127 Great Bridgewater Street, Manchester, England, UK, M1 5JQ. Photographed on 22 May 2010. The recorded location is 127 Great Bridgewater St, Manchester, England, UK, M1 5JQ. The title refers to Peveril Castle in Castleton, Derbyshire The Peveril of the Peak, named after Walter Scott's Novel is also a famous pub in central Manchester. It is also the name of a stagecoach / mailcoach which ued to travel across the Peak District, from Luton to Manchester. Peveril of the Peak (1823) is the longest novel by Sir Walter Scott. For the story of historic pub, it is useful to note that beer culture links agriculture, brewing, distribution and the licensed trade; Cask-conditioned ale, handpumps, brewery branding and pub interiors became especially significant to the real-ale revival from the 1970s onwards, while later craft brewing introduced new styles and independent producers. The historical setting for commuter travel is that the growth of integrated transport authorities has encouraged common branding, coordinated fares and closer links between buses, trams, cycling and rail, replacing a more fragmented pattern of separate operators. For present-day historic pub, 2026 is significant because pub survival remains a live issue as energy, staffing, taxation and changing drinking habits affect the licensed trade; Historic and contemporary pub images therefore have relevance to community assets, nightlife, independent brewing, high-street change and hospitality economics. In the 2026 discussion of commuter travel, local transport policy increasingly focuses on integrated networks, franchising, accessibility and lower-emission vehicles; Greater Manchester's Bee Network is a prominent example of buses being brought into a coordinated public system alongside trams and active travel. Additional discoverability terms include public house, licensed premises, alehouse, hostelry, bar trade, real ale, and cask ale.
