Merseyside Police vehicles parked outside the Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts in Derby Square, Liverpool city centre, home to Liverpool Crown Court and a major focal point for criminal justice across Merseyside. The image brings together policing, courts, law enforcement and the administration of justice in one recognisable civic setting. Police visibility remains a prominent issue across Liverpool, with neighbourhood teams responding to public concerns over anti-social behaviour, violent and sexual offences, drug dealing, weapons and disorder in parts of the city. Merseyside Police has used targeted patrols, neighbourhood policing and, where required, enhanced stop-and-search powers to respond to incidents involving weapons and public disorder. In July 2026, Section 60 powers were introduced in Liverpool city centre following reports of groups carrying machetes and other weapons and becoming involved in fights and assaults. More recent neighbourhood priorities published by the force continue to include anti-social behaviour, visible patrols, drug-related offending and reassurance policing in busy public areas. The Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts provide the judicial setting in which serious criminal cases from Liverpool and the wider Merseyside area can be heard, linking frontline policing with prosecution, hearings, sentencing and the wider criminal justice process. The presence of marked police cars outside the courts symbolises the connection between investigation, enforcement and judicial proceedings. The photograph can illustrate Liverpool crime and justice, public safety, neighbourhood policing, police visibility, anti-social behaviour, weapons policing, drug enforcement, court proceedings, criminal prosecution, sentencing, law enforcement, urban crime, public order, the British justice system and the role of Merseyside Police in maintaining community safety across Liverpool and neighbouring districts.
