Gate Lodge of Duckets Grove Castle Carlow Ireland. This Gatelodge is one of the most elaborate structures of this kind in Ireland. The derelict mock Norman Castle some distance from this Gate, was used in the 1920's as a barracks for the IRA, and burned down in 1933. It remained in private ownership until taken over by the Carlow County Council in 2005. It was once the focal point of a large and wealthy estate run by the Duckett family. In 1830 the original Mansion was transformed into a castellated Gothic fantasy for J. D. Duckett by Thomas A. Cabden. See similar images by the same photographer on alamy
