The Polikarpov Po-2 is the second most-produced aircraft design in history, with over 40, 000 being built in the Soviet Union between 1928 and 1953. Most famously, it served as a very effective light bomber throughout WWII, being used to make night-time nuisance attacks on German troops, cutting its engine to make almost-silent glide attacks which kept them awake and gave them no rest. It was flown by the famous all-women Red Army unit the "Night Witches". It was very difficult to shoot down because of its very slow speed, low level operation, and simple wood and fabric construction which could absorb a lot of damage. It was also very difficult to see on Radar for the same reasons. This one was built in 1944 and was acquired by the Shuttleworth Trust in 2004. It made its first post-restoration flight on January 10, 2011 and is now a regular performer at Shuttleworth Trust air displays.
