. Made at the recorded location in 2016, this photograph records a real place and moment, preserving details that may later be altered by redevelopment, rebranding, changing ownership or different public use. The image documents Bills in electric lights, restaurant Glasgow Queen St, Scotland, UK. The frame also records themes of retail property, commercial streetscape, local trading, historical comparison, shopfront economy, local history, changing land use, specialist retailer, period detail, high-street commerce, customer footfall, documentary photography, independent retail, and small business. The modern context includes continuing discussion of town-centre regeneration, independent business and how shopfronts become short-lived records of changing businesses and branding. As a dated visual record of the recorded location, the frame retains building condition and alterations, making it especially useful if changed technology subsequently changes the scene. The photograph additionally reflects everyday life, regional identity, changing streetscape, visual archive, community identity, archival record, contemporary social history, and local enterprise. References to lights, Bills, Scotland, electric, and Glasgow give the picture a strong period identity and tie it closely to its named subject. For the recorded location, the photograph contributes to a cumulative visual history in which changes in use, signs, access and appearance can be traced over time. The setting also helps illustrate town-centre regeneration and how shopfronts become short-lived records of changing businesses and branding within the specific setting of the recorded location. The image also provides a reference for independent business and the role of small retailers in maintaining active town centres as part of the longer story of the recorded location. The photograph keeps a point of historical comparison as part of the recorded location's history.
