plastic baskets for retaining pebbles on the shingle beach at Dunwich. This is a new form of soft coastal engineering. The low cliffs behind the beach are famous for frequent collapse. what remains of Dunwich village is just a remnant of a much larger settlement, most of which has been lost to continual coastal erosion. In February 2007, a new experimental beach stabilisation project began, designed to reduce the severe cliff failures. A series of sand and shingle humps have been created to stop the beach eroding and therefore help to reduce cliff erosion. The Cliff Beach Stabilisation Project will create a series of sand and shingle humps along the beach.
