. Made at the recorded location in 2019, this photograph records a real place and subject in context, allowing later viewers to compare what has survived, changed, closed, moved or been replaced. The main subject is Ventons Devon Cyder, Mark, Sharon Venton, Bridgwater Food & Drink Festival 2019, taste of the west, foods, drink, Town hall. The surrounding context brings together beer tourism, food heritage, traditional cuisine, cask-beer tradition, brewing heritage, regional food culture, local character, public realm, regional speciality, beer appreciation, national food identity, everyday life, licensed trade, and festival bar service. Today's wider story includes consumer spending, business rates and the practical question of the cultural role of real ale and regional brewing. For contemporary context, hospitality costs and changing diets are closely related themes, especially where the issue becomes the role of ceremonial food in annual celebrations. With the passage of time, the scene keeps a record of the way the place functioned before later physical or commercial change within the setting of the recorded location. Further connections include beer festival scene, hand-pulled beer, contemporary social history, festive eating, community identity, drinks hospitality, heritage dish, and beer judging. The combination of taste, foods, Venton, Festival, and Bridgwater anchors the image to a recognisable activity, place or moment. A later view of the recorded location may show a very different setting, increasing the value of this precise record of its earlier appearance and activity. The wider significance includes consumer spending and the cultural role of real ale and regional brewing when considered against later change at the recorded location. Another strand within the photograph is traditional celebrations and the role of ceremonial food in annual celebrations without losing the local specificity of the recorded location.
