When Tollymore Forest Park in County Down, Northern Ireland was established in the 1720's Lord, or Viscount Limerick, invited the amateur architect Thomas Wright to pioneer Gothic Revival in Ireland, a style that can be observed in the many follies on the estate. The Barbican Gate in was once the principle entrance to the estate and lead through an avenue of cedars to the main house, demolished in 1952. This image appears in "Irish Follies and Whimsical Architecture" by George Munday and published by O'Brien Press in Dublin.
