The ancient Egyptian god Khons( also spelled Khensu and Chons) was honored as god of the moon and also the patron of childbirth. He was a member of the Theban triad, along with Amun and Mut. At Karnak, he was called Khons Nefer hotep (pictured here), meaning "Maker of Destinies." On his head, he wears the the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. The uraeus royal symbol is above his forehead. He holds in his right hand an ankh symbol of life; in his left, a scepter of the god Ptah. He wears the collar known as menat, a symbol of masculinity.
