Pub sign at Sinclairs Oyster Bar, Manchester depicting Molly Owen, the formidable 18th century house-keeper and chief barmaid. The business was known as John Shaws Punch House from 1738 and Molly had a reputation for a no-nonsense approach to throwing out dawdling customers at closing time. The business began selling oysters in 1845 under the stewardship of John Sinclair, whose name it still carries. The 18th century Sinclairs Oyster bar building was relocated in the city centre redevelopment after the 1996 IRA bombing. It was relocated and rebuilt., sharing 'Shambles Square' with the similarly treated 16th century Old Wellington pub, adjacent to the modern shops in Exchange Square, of which Harvey Nichols stands in the background.
