Weitere Informationen:
A commemorative monument to the settlers of Virginia. It is situated on the River Thames at Virginia Quay, formerly known as Brunswick Wharf. It was set up in 1999 and is the work of Wendy Taylor. It was made using stones from the old quay capped by a sculptured astrolab, a tool used in 17th century navigation. The monument replaces an earlier one, which was a tablet set up at Brunswick House and which was presented by the people of Virginia in 1928. It was then moved in 1971 to the position of the 1999 monument. It was from here that the first successful English settlers embarked when they sailed to found Jamestown in Virginia.
